A cute baby is on the way, and you are excited to know how your child will look like. The study of the genes and other hereditary characteristics are part of Genetics. This includes the study of genetic variation and other trait inheritances among the living organisms.
But how well can you guess your newborn’s appearance? Find out in this article.
What Will My Baby Look Like
It is not possible to know how your child will look like. But you can make an educated guess for this. And this educated guessing game is called the Genetics. We will find out how the parent genes work, in inheriting certain body feature. And hopefully, you will get some ideas about how your child may look!
Height
One tall parent and one short parent will produce children with a height falling in the middle. One of the rule says that average height of the parents are calculated, and 2 inches are added for boys. While for girls, 2 inches are subtracted. Two tall and short parents will give birth to tall and short kids respectively. Well, height factor is something which keeps changing.
For example, if proper nutrition is not provided to the children then you won’t find the right growth in them.
Color of the Eye
This body component is the most confusing one, as they can’t be readily determined. If both the parents have got brown eyes, then this does not guarantee you a baby with a dark-coloured eye. In fact, two brown eyed parents can produce a blue-eyed baby. In a rare case, even two blue eyed parents can give birth to a brown eyed child. The latter one is rare.
The eye color determination is hard because there are a lot of genes which are responsible for this. For example, one gene may say to add more blue, while another will say ‘let me add some brown pigment.’ It is just like the layering of different colors.
Weight
If both the parents are over-weighted, then more likely their baby is also going to be over-weight. And it is pretty obvious too, that only one gene has caused this increase in weight.
An obese condition is a different concept, and it depends on multiple factors. These factors can be hereditary as well as environmental too. Studies on the obesity causing genes are going on, but this also depends on the individual lifestyle mainly. To be safe with the weight, instill the habit of exercises and eating right. Particularly during the pregnancy time.
Hair Color
There is no much study or guarantee on the hair color though. If your baby gets a fiery red colored hair, then it could be a passed on trait through a lot of generations. This is achieved through parents who have dark colored or any other blond hair colored parent.
Your child could have a different hair color, and this is not much decidable.
Will my baby get dimples?
If one of the parents have got dimples, then there are chances that your child will have dimples too. Also, if you belong to a family with high dimple dominance. You can even include other different inherits here like the cleft chin, widow’s peak, and many others.
